Breathing Easier: How Community Support Helps Children Like Aniat

At just 13 years old, Aniat, is a force of spirit. Described as spunky and full of personality, she brings light to those around her in ways that don’t require words. Though she is non-verbal and non-ambulatory, her presence speaks volumes.

Aniat’s journey began with complications at birth, including the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. This resulted in a number of complex medical diagnoses, including hypoxic spasms, encephalopathy, microcephaly, and chronic lung disease. Each of these conditions presents daily challenges—not only for Anita, but for her entire care team and family.

One of the most serious risks she faces is aspiration, where fluids can enter the lungs and lead to dangerous respiratory complications. For a child with chronic lung disease, even a minor episode can quickly escalate.

That’s why receiving a portable suction machine has been such a critical and meaningful support for her.

This device allows her caregivers to quickly and effectively clear her airway when needed, whether at home or on the go. It provides peace of mind, increases safety, and helps prevent emergency situations before they start. More than just equipment, it’s a tool that enables greater comfort, mobility, and quality of life.

For Aniat, that means more opportunities to be present, to engage, and to continue showing the world her unmistakable spark.

Behind every piece of equipment like this is a story—not just of need, but of resilience. Aniat reminds us that strength isn’t always loud or visible. Sometimes, it’s found in quiet determination, in everyday moments, and in the unwavering love of those who support her.

We are honored to play a small role in helping Aniat live more safely and comfortably and we look forward to seeing her continue to shine in her own incredible way.
